Game Overview
Developed by Leafy Games, Idols of Ash is a first-person indie horror adventure survival game that challenges players to descend thousands of meters through a dark, eerie ancient structure using just a grappling hook. Dangers are everywhere: the deep, narrow paths; sudden drops; trickier terrain layouts; and especially the giant centipedes, aka murderpedes. There’s not much time to hesitate while pressure and difficulty increase as you descend more into the depths.

Game controls
It’s the most important tool in this horror game. Aim at a surface and click and hold to attach the hook before sliding down or climbing up the rope. Aim for safe landings every time!
You’re not alone in the depths. The terrifying Murderpede can appear and attack at any time. There’s no time for hesitation; keep moving to escape the deadly enemies and use the chattering sound cues to track danger.
If the bar hits zero, it’s the end of your adventure, and you have to restart the journey from the beginning. Luckily, the lantern ember in the game helps rekindle some vitality, or boost your health bar, in other words.
Version 1.15: The most recent update (as of April 10, 2026) adds improvements for controller support, along with an enhancement for the Reduced Pixelation option. It's also available on Steam.
Version 1.14: The new release offers various fixes, additions, changes, and, especially, experimental new game modes: Nightmare and First Kiln (inverted). Extra additions and changes include:
Additions: The Ashen Hook (a cosmetic unlock) and options to enable/disable Reduce Pixelization and Volumetric Lighting via the settings menu.
Changes: The player always starts the adventure in Nightmare mode after the tutorial area.
Fixes: The input and audio-related issues.
Practice moving skills. Spend time getting comfortable with the grappling hook first before diving deeper into the structure. Prioritize sharpening and improving timing, swing angles, and landing control.
Be fast. Speed is crucial, but don’t rush blindly. It’s important to stay fast without losing precision.
Be prepared to encounter centipedes. Stay alert, keep moving, and avoid panic when the Murderpede appears; hesitation and panic often lead to mistakes.
Adjust brightness. The environment within the ancient structure is dark and eerie. Take a few moments selecting the right brightness for your eyes to see platforms and environmental details comfortably.
